Prayagraj, Now farmers will be able to know the health of fruits and vegetables in time. It will be known before it is damaged. Dr. Prem Prakash Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, ECC has developed such a unique nano-biosensor. It can be connected to the mobile through the app. The sensor will inform about the deterioration of fruits and vegetables. It will be available to farmers and traders in the market for Rs 100 to 150. Its patent has been filed. Some companies have even offered to purchase this technology.

Dr Singh said the nano biosensor is shaped like a five rupee coin. After how many hours the fruits and vegetables will start to spoil, this sensor will give an indication via the mobile app. According to Dr. Singh, its thickness is 200 nanometers. It is a sensor based on silicon photonics. With the help of the Center for Nano Science and Engineering of the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, a project has been prepared to increase the sensitivity of this sensor and work on its conditioning through the Department of Science and Technology. If this happens, the capacity of the sensor will increase further, its cost will also decrease.

This is how the sensor works According to research by Dr. Singh and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, fruits and vegetables release ethylene and carbon dioxide during ripening. If the identity and quantity of these gases are known, it becomes easy to know the stage of its maturation. Incorrect temperature and humidity during storage and transportation also increase the amount of ethylene released from food grains and cause them to ripen quickly. The gas sensor must be accompanied by a temperature and humidity sensor to know the exact ripeness of the fruit. All sensors are assembled in a single device using a micro electromechanical system. For this reason, its name was given Nano Biosensor. This coin-shaped sensor will be installed on the food grain package, by connecting to the mobile APP, the ripening status of the food grain can be detected.
